A Year-End Message From The President
Another year of Shenango NAVHDA is already behind us. The Shenango Chapter was incorporated in 1987 and this completes 30 years of continuous pursuit of gun dog perfection in Western PA for our Chapter. I have had the opportunity to talk to some of the original members, as well as others that were members in the earlier years. Our chapter has come a long way. Initially our chapter was a disorganized group of dog enthusiasts that really didn’t know what a NAVHDA chapter was supposed to be doing.
We now have many members who have brought their dogs to achieve a very high level in the NAVHDA system, as well as members who are judges and members who have been participating in NAVHDA for many years. Our chapter is blessed to have a very good lease with grounds that contain all the venues for testing, which was not always the case for our chapter. This is NOT the norm for most chapters and we need to be good stewards of the property to be able to maintain this relationship.
The club has had a very successful year. We had a great fundraising effort. Happily a chapter member won the Cabela’s gift card. Our membership has grown with many new members. We also had many members prize dogs this year; congratulations to all. Our chapter has had several years in a row that our members’ dogs have qualified for the Invitational. This is a tribute to our chapter’s commitment to training our dogs. It is also a tribute to the experience and willingness of our members to help train our members to train their dogs! This is what the club is all about. We were also able to make improvements at the water venue with a giant problem solved, getting that giant pine tree out of the duck search launching area! Our by-laws and training grounds policies were also revised this year. All in all a lot of was accomplished this year.
Grounds maintenance continues to be our biggest expense but maintaining the fields is of paramount importance. We will be trying to incorporate an on line payment system for next year and anyone that has ideas please forward them to myself or Lance Petro. We are hoping to have a handler’s clinic next year, as well as come up with a great fundraising idea. Time marches on and soon preparations for Shenango NAVHDA 2018 will be underway.
First lets all enjoy our hunting season so we can bring some good stories with us when we next get together.
To all safe and happy hunting!
